About Us
Healing Acres Ranch was founded in 2024 in Crete, Nebraska, by Warren and Avery Jennings. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating meaningful experiences for people and rehabilitating horses in need. Our goal is simple: provide a safe, welcoming place where people and horses can connect, grow, and find a new path forward. Our mission stems from a heartfelt desire to create a safe haven for healing, just as we have experienced through our connection with horses.
Our Approach
We believe horses have a unique way of helping people slow down, become present, and connect in ways that can be hard to find in everyday life. There is something powerful about standing beside a horse, learning to communicate with it and gaining its trust.
At Healing Acres Ranch, we don’t follow a set curriculum or prescribe what someone is supposed to get out of their time here. Every person is different, and every experience with a horse is different too. For one person, it may be learning to ride. For another, it might be grooming, leading, helping with chores, building confidence, or simply spending quiet time with a horse.
Our role is to provide a safe, welcoming environment, dependable horses, and experienced guidance. From there, we give people room to learn, connect, try something new, and experience horses at their own pace.
We have seen how meaningful those moments can be, and our goal is simply to make more of them possible.
Rehabilitating horses is just as important to our mission as creating meaningful experiences for people.
Some of the horses that come to Healing Acres Ranch have had successful riding or competition careers but need help because of injury, soundness issues, age, or other physical setbacks. Others simply need time, thoughtful care, and the right environment to determine what they are capable of next.
We work closely with veterinarians and farriers to address each horse’s individual needs. Rehabilitation may include specialty shoeing, veterinary care, conditioning, nutrition, training, rest, or simply giving a horse enough time to become comfortable again.
Our goal is not to force every horse into the same future. Some horses become dependable members of Healing Acres Ranch and are able to carry riders, participate in lessons, or spend time with people here. Others may be better suited for a quieter job or a carefully selected new home.
Every horse deserves to be treated as an individual. We want to give each one the best opportunity we can to become healthy, useful, comfortable, and ready for whatever comes next.
What We Offer
Horse Experiences
Healing Acres Ranch gives people the opportunity to experience horses in a real, welcoming ranch environment. Depending on the person and the day, that might mean grooming, leading, learning basic horsemanship, riding, helping around the barn, or simply spending quiet time with a horse.
There is no set curriculum and no prescribed outcome. We provide safe horses, experienced guidance, and room for each person to connect, learn, and grow at their own pace.
Riding Lessons
We love giving children and families opportunities to experience horses together. Kids can learn how to safely approach, handle, groom, lead, and ride horses while building skills and confidence along the way. For some families, this is an opportunity they might not otherwise have. We want Healing Acres Ranch to be a place where children can learn something new, experience ranch life, and make memories around good horses.
Group Experiences
We welcome school groups, 4-H clubs, Girl Scout troops, community organizations, and other groups who want to spend time at the ranch. Group visits can include meeting the horses, learning basic horsemanship, grooming, demonstrations, ranch activities, and other hands-on experiences depending on the size and needs of the group. No previous horse experience is required.
Horse Rehabilitation
We take in horses that need help because of injury, soundness issues, poor feet, age, conditioning needs, or other physical setbacks. Working alongside veterinarians and farriers, we give each horse the care and time needed to determine what its future can look like. Some rehabilitated horses become part of Healing Acres Ranch and are able to safely carry riders or participate in our horse experiences. Others may be better suited for a different job or a carefully selected new home. Our goal is simple: give each horse the best opportunity possible to become healthy, comfortable, useful, and ready for what comes next.
